SER ArchiveStore G2
The SER ArchiveStore G2 is an all-in-one top-tier storage solution. Data and documents are archived and retrieved at hard disk speed and with the level of security provided by UDO WORM media (write once read many). The 19" SAN all-in-one storage solution for DOXiS Archive combines RAID 5 systems and SER’s UDO WORM technology, together with the necessary fibre channel components, in one unit.
The storage system is freely expandable from 1 to 12 terabytes (optionally up to 48TB) and can easily be integrated into existing SAN architectures. The hard disk and UDO capacities can be adapted individually to customer requirements and expanded on demand. The SER ArchiveStore G2 meets all the demands placed on modern Information Lifecycle Management (ILM). The DOXiS ILM , which comes with the SER ArchiveStore, actively manages your organisation’s information (data and documents) from the moment they are created, in accordance with their value and throughout their lifecycle.
The media management module in DOXiS ILM can be used to generate ‘virtual’ media, which in turn makes it possible to move data around with almost no administrative work, independently of the actual physical storage medium. The cache management, which is also included in DOXiS ILM, makes it possible to move data back from UDO storage to the hard disk system using a demand-driven, document-based system controlled by the application. Retention management can be used for active management of data retention periods.
With the SER ArchiveStore G2, data is initially archived on the hard disk system. It then automatically generates a back-up to UDO WORM. Searches can be carried out both via the hard disk system and via the UDO WORM. The data available for searches on the hard disk system can be retrieved on average within 1-2 seconds. Retrieving data held exclusively on UDO storage media takes around 6-10 seconds. In addition, with the offline management option for UDO media, which is also included in DOXiS ILM, further back-up generations can be created and older media can be moved e.g. to a vault.
Compliance
Some legislation requires data to be physically destroyed once the retention deadline is passed or if the organisation so desires. Compliant Write Once UDO media can be used within the SER AchiveStore G2 for this purpose. The Compliant Write Once UDO media have the same functions as True Write Once media, plus a fully verified process for the ‘shredder’ function. This means that individual data on the Compliant Write Once UDO media can be completely destroyed once their retention period has expired.
The shredder function is controlled directly from DOXiS ILM and works only with Compliant Write Once media. Unlike the delete function with magnetic disks, the shredder function on UDO media leaves no traces of previous data behind. The shredding of data on these special media is quick and offers the highest possible standard for total data destruction.
The UDO media have been internationally certified for long-term archiving by ISO, IEC and Ecma in Standard Ecma-350 and ISO/IEC 17345, so they meet all the basic principles of compliance legislation in a wide range of countries, including the SEC 17a 4 requirements.
